State Observer with Round-Robin Aperiodic Sampled Measurements with Jitter

International audience; A sampled-data observer is proposed for linear continuous-time systems whose outputs are sequentially sampled via non-uniform sampling intervals repeating a prescribed Round-Robin sequence. With constant sampling intervals (jitter-free case) we provide constructive necessary and sufficient conditions for the design of an asymptotic continuous-discrete observer whose estimation error is input-to-state stable (ISS) from process disturbances and measurement noise. Aperiodic variability of low-mass X-ray binaries at very low frequencies

We have obtained discrete Fourier power spectra of a sample of persistent low-mass neutron-star X-ray binaries using long-term light curves from the All Sky Monitor on board the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer. Our aim is to investigate their aperiodic variability at frequencies in the range 1 x 10^{-7}-5 x 10^{-6} Hz and compare their properties with those of the black-hole source Cyg X-1. We find that the classification scheme that divides LMXBs into Z and atoll sources blurs at very low frequencies. Iterative pairs and multitape automata

In this paper we prove that if every iterative k-tuple of a language L recognized by a k-tape automaton is very degenerate, then L is recognizable. Moreover, we prove that if L is an aperiodic langnage recognized by a deterministic k-tape automaton, then L is recognizable.

Aperiodic Diffract: Study of diffraction gratings

In this work we introduce a virtual laboratory, APERIODIC DIFFRACT, developed in Matlab GUI (Graphical User Interface) as an informatics tool for teaching the diffractive properties of aperiodic gratings. A method of variation of boundaries for waveguide grating couplers

We describe a method for calculating the solution of the electromagnetic field in a non-rectilinear open waveguide by using a series expansion, starting from the field of a rectilinear waveguide. Our approach is based on a method of variation of boundaries. We prove that the obtained series expansion converges and we provide a radiation condition at infinity in such a way that the problem has a unique solution. Our approach can model several kinds of optical devices which are used in optical integrated circuits. Numerical examples will be shown for the case of finite aperiodic waveguide grating couplers.

This work presents a new virtual laboratory, OPHTALMIC, developed with MATLAB GUI for using in Optics and Optometry courses as a computer tool for studying the focusing properties of multifocal diffractive both on unconventional structures both periodic and aperiodic. This virtual laboratory enables students to quickly and easily analyze the influence of the different parameters of construction and find the best solution for a user.

Anti-powers in infinite words

In combinatorics of words, a concatenation of $k$ consecutive equal blocks is called a power of order $k$. In this paper we take a different point of view and define an anti-power of order $k$ as a concatenation of $k$ consecutive pairwise distinct blocks of the same length. As a main result, we show that every infinite word contains powers of any order or anti-powers of any order. That is, the existence of powers or anti-powers is an unavoidable regularity. Indeed, we prove a stronger result, which relates the density of anti-powers to the existence of a factor that occurs with arbitrary exponent. Multiple-plane image formation by Walsh zone plates.

[EN] A radial Walsh filter is a phase binary diffractive optical element characterized by a set of concentric rings that take the phase values 0 or ¿, corresponding to the values + 1 or ¿1 of a given radial Walsh function. Therefore, a Walsh filter can be re-interpreted as an aperiodic multifocal zone plate, capable to produce images of multiple planes simultaneously in a single output plane of an image forming system. In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate for the first time the focusing capabilities of these structures. Additionally, we report the first achievement of images of multiple-plane objects in a single image plane with these aperiodic diffractive lenses.

The Many Faces of a Translation

First-order translations have recently been characterized as the maps computed by aperiodic single-valued nondeterministic finite transducers (NFTs). It is shown here that this characterization lifts to "V-translations" and "V-single-valued-NFTs", where V is an arbitrary monoid pseudovariety. More strikingly, 2-way V-machines are introduced, and the following three models are shown exactly equivalent to Eilenberg's classical notion of a bimachine when V is a group variety or when V is the variety of aperiodic monoids: V-translations, V-single-valued-NFTs and 2-way V-transducers.
